TRANSCRIPTION:

Wendy Wright, DNP, ANP-BC, FNP-BC: I'm Dr Wendy Wright. I am an adult and family nurse practitioner, and I am honored to have been chosen to speak on billing and coding 2024.

As an owner of a nurse practitioner-owned and operated primary care clinic, I cannot emphasize to you how important it is that you are up to date with the latest recommendations on billing and coding. Not only does it affect the clinic as a whole in terms of billing and reimbursement, it also can affect you substantially if you are undercoding or even overcoding a visit.

So over the course of my lecture, what we will focus on is the latest updates in how to bill a visit. Whether you bill that visit, visit based on medical decision making, or you bill that visit based on time, you will hear the latest updates. What I don't think a lot of people realize is that it no longer matters the HPI, the bullets in the review of systems, or even the physical exam that you conduct. All of your billing and coding is either now based on time or based on your medical decision making.

We will then turn our attention to modifiers and when do you need to add on modifiers to tell that insurance company that you've done something above and beyond just that regular E&M visit. We will also focus on latest updates, things that you can now bill for that maybe you've never billed for before. So you can bill for standardized social determinants of health administration questionnaires. You can also now bill for the pelvic exam because the insurance companies now recognize that there are supplies that need to be had and sometimes there needs to be an escort or a chaperone in on those visits. So they're reimbursing for that pelvic exam.

So I encourage you to join me, to hear so much about billing and coding way more than I was able to cover in this video and I don't think you'll leave disappointed. Thank you so much, and I look forward to seeing you in my session.
