Lung Disease Education in Full Force

The American Lung Association in New Jersey and its LUNG FORCE initiative had hosted their LUNG FORCE Expo on March 27, 2018, in Cherry Hill, New Jersey. Hundreds of health care providers, patients, and caregivers gathered for this event, as sessions focused on the latest trends, resources, and research surrounding lung health.

As you may know, more people die from lung cancer than from breast, prostate, colon, and pancreatic cancers combined. Therefore, it is important for health care providers, as well as their patients, to understand lung disease and screening techniques.

Various, numerous sessions were held on March 27. Among the most popular sessions aimed for health care professionals were:

  • The keynote “Innovative Surgical Management of Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer,” with Patrick Ross Jr, MD, PhD, who is the chair of surgery at Main Line Health System;
  • “Targeted Approaches to the Treatment of Asthma and Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease,” with Jessica Most, MD, who is an associate professor of medicine at Thomas Jefferson University Section of Pulmonary and Critical Care;
  • and the plenary session “Emotional Toll of Living with Chronic Lung Disease” with Hero speaker Dennis McGorry, MD, who is a lung transplant patient and retired family physician.

Other sessions were held specifically for patients and caregivers, including a Q&A panel and “Ultimate Pulmonary Wellness,” with Noah Greenspan, DPT, CCS, EMT-B, from the Pulmonary Wellness & Rehabilitation Center.
